correct working      (A1)

eg   −5 + (8 − 1)(3)

u8 = 16     A1 N2

[2 marks]

METHOD 1

fx=3xdx       (A1)

attempts to integrate       (M1)

fx=2x32+C  =2xx+C       A1

uses f1=3 to obtain 3=2132+C and so C=1       M1

substitutes x=4 into their expression for fx       (M1)

so f4=17       A1

METHOD 2

14f'xdx=143xdx       (A1)

attempts to integrate both sides       (M1)

fx14=2x3214       A1

f4-f1=16-2       M1

uses f1=3 to find their value of f4       (M1)

f4-3=16-2

so f4=17       A1
